Field Notice · Outage Backup & PSPS Resilience

When PG&E pulls
the plug, stay online.

A seasonal standby satellite kit for Bay homes in fire country — pre-positioned before shutoff season, battery included, ready before the outage. When the power and the cable go dark, you keep working from home. Think insurance, not a weekly rental.

PRE-POSITIONEDREADY BEFORE THE OUTAGE
The recurring dread

PSPS season is coming.

Every fall, the same script. Red-flag wind warnings, a notice from the utility, and the grid goes dark across the hills — sometimes for hours, sometimes for days. Cable cuts out. Cell towers run their backup batteries down. And your home office goes with them.

01

The shutoff is planned — your outage isn't

A Public Safety Power Shutoff can be called with barely a day's warning and last well past 48 hours. You find out you needed a backup the morning it's already too late to get one.

↳ Little to no warning
02

Cable and cell die together

When the grid drops, the cable modem is dead and nearby cell sites fall back to batteries that don't last a multi-day event. A hotspot is only as good as a tower that's still up.

↳ Both lifelines fail
03

Working from home stops working

No meetings, no email, no uploads — a missed deadline or a burned PTO day every time the wind picks up. For a remote household, an outage isn't an inconvenience; it's lost income.

↳ Lost work, lost income
The standby plan

Set up before the storm — not during it.

The whole point is that nothing is left to the last minute. Your kit is on-site and ready before the season starts, so an outage is a non-event.

01

Reserve a season kit

Pay one flat $400 retainer before fire season. It reserves a unit for your household and puts you first in line for deployment — no scramble, no quote forms. You only pay the day/week rental rate on the days a shutoff actually takes you offline.

↳ $400 retainer · pay-on-activation
02

We pre-position it

Ahead of shutoff season we deliver the satellite kit and battery to your home, set it up, and confirm a clear sky view — then leave it staged and ready. Nothing to ship when it counts.

↳ On-site & staged early
03

The outage hits — you stay online

Power drops, cable goes dark — you flip to satellite running on the battery and keep working. No truck to wait on, because the kit is already there.

↳ Already on-site
04

We support it through the event

Priority help on call the whole time the shutoff is declared — and at season's end we collect the kit, or you roll it into next year.

↳ Supported, then renewed
A retainer, not a rental

One season rate, a unit held for you.

A flat $400 seasonal retainer reserves a unit and priority deployment — pre-positioned, battery-included, set up and supported. It converts to our day/week rental rate only on the days a shutoff actually pulls you offline. Turn the recurring dread of fire season into one line item.

Seasonal Standby Retainer

Reserves a unit · priority deployment · battery · setup · support
$400PER FIRE SEASON · ONE HOUSEHOLD
Reserves a unit + priority deployment. The retainer holds a kit for your household and puts you at the front of the line — pre-positioned, set up, sky view checked, staged and ready before the season.
Battery / power station included so the kit runs with the grid down — high-data satellite, no per-GB meter. Realistic runtime is quoted to your usage; we don't promise a fixed number of hours.
Keeps one household online through an outage — calls, email, uploads and your home's essential devices. A household-sized connection for the people who must stay working, not whole-neighborhood wifi.
Converts on activation. When a shutoff actually hits, the retainer rolls into our standard self-serve day/week rate for the days you use it — you only pay the rental rate when the lights go out.
Priority support during declared shutoffs and any ISP outage — on call the whole time the event is active, then pickup or renewal at season's end.

Multi-building property, or a business keeping a whole team online? That's a custom quote. Refundable $600 damage deposit on the kit.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

How fast does it kick in when an outage starts?

Instantly — because it's already there. On a standby plan the kit is pre-positioned and set up at your home before the season, so when a shutoff or outage hits there's nothing to deliver and nothing to wait on. You switch to satellite on the battery and keep working.

Will the battery last a multi-day shutoff?

The included power station is sized to carry a normal work session, and it tops back up whenever power briefly returns or from optional solar. For longer multi-day events we'll right-size the battery for your usage when we quote the plan, and you can add capacity. We talk through realistic runtime before you reserve — no guesswork.

Does it cover regular internet outages, or only power shutoffs?

Both. The plan is built for fire-season power shutoffs, but the same staged kit covers any home-internet outage — a cut line or a regional ISP failure on a clear, powered day. Whenever your connection drops, the backup is right there.

Why satellite instead of a cellular hotspot?

A hotspot depends on a nearby cell tower — and in a shutoff those towers run down their backup batteries fast and overload. Satellite internet doesn't lean on the local grid or the cable network, so it stays up precisely when cable and cell go dark.

Is it recurring? Can I cancel?

It's a seasonal plan, not a long lock-in. You pay once for the fire season; at the end we pick the kit up or you renew for next year — your choice. No auto-charge surprises, and you can decline to renew anytime before the next season starts.

Who is this for?

Bay Area homes and remote properties in fire country — the Oakland and Berkeley hills, Montclair, West Marin, and Sonoma/Napa ridgelines — where shutoffs are routine and someone in the house works online. If a dark grid means lost work, a standby kit pays for itself the first event.
